We will meet you in Homemade’s artisanal workshop in Barcelona, in a very unique and special environment. Here, you will be surrounded by finished espadrilles and all the parts we use to make them.
Before we get to work on our espadrilles, we will tell you about the fascinating story of these beautiful local shoes. We will go into detail about the materials we use to make them.
You will learn about this age old tradition, and how the espadrille shoe was initially made by and for humble people. And finally, you’ll learn how the shoe becomes one of the most trendy shoes in the world.
Afterwards, you will choose the color and size of the base, the ribbons, the threads, and the type of stitching. Once you’ve done that, you’ll stitch your very own traditional espadrilles, following our instructions.
Once finished, you will learn the different traditional and modern ways to lace them up. At the end you can even walk out of the shop with your shoes on your feet!

In this 1.5-hour hands-on experience, you will learn how to make your own traditional Catalan espadrilles (espardenyes). A master artisan guides you through stitching and assembly using authentic materials, and you take home your finished pair.
No experience is required. The workshop is designed for beginners, and instructors teach all techniques step by step in a relaxed and creative environment.
All materials are included: jute soles, fabrics, threads, needles, and tools. You also receive expert guidance and your finished pair of espadrilles to take home and wear.
Yes, you can choose from a wide selection of fabrics and ribbons. Sizes range from children’s to large adult sizes, and your shoe size is requested during booking.
The workshop takes place in an artisan studio in central Barcelona, usually in the Gothic Quarter or El Born. The exact address is sent after booking confirmation.
Yes, it is family-friendly. We recommend a minimum age of 7–8 years with adult supervision, as needles are used during the process.
The workshop is mainly conducted in English and Spanish. The process is highly visual, making it easy to follow regardless of language.
Cancellations are eligible for a refund if made at least 24 hours before the activity. For late cancellations, please contact us to review possible options.
